Learning Nuggets: Micro-Learning for Leadership Development
Developing leadership and soft skills among young people can be a challenge, especially in diverse classrooms and non-formal educational settings. The YoungLEAD project, funded by Erasmus+, introduces Learning Nuggets — small, bite-sized pieces of educational content designed to make leadership education accessible, flexible, and engaging.
Learning Nuggets are short, practical units that focus on essential life skills such as communication, conflict resolution, decision-making, managing emotions, resilience, self-esteem, and teamwork. Each nugget is teacher-friendly, designed to fit easily into classroom lessons, after-school activities, or youth group sessions, allowing educators to introduce leadership concepts without extensive preparation or specialised resources.
The Learning Nuggets include a variety of interactive and easy-to-use resources, such as:
- Posters: Quick visual reminders using infographics to explain key ideas, perfect for classroom display.
- Reels: Short (20-second) videos that grab attention and offer something fun or thought-provoking.
- Flashcards: Tools to test knowledge, with questions or key terms on one side and answers or explanations on the other.
- Worksheets: One-page activities for solo or group work, including exercises to deepen understanding.
- Quizzes: Interactive multiple-choice questions to check comprehension and encourage reflection.
- Interactive Exercises: Digital activities like matching, sorting, or drag-and-drop tasks that make learning hands-on and engaging.
By breaking leadership education into digestible, engaging units, Learning Nuggets empower young people to take initiative, work collaboratively, and develop essential skills for personal and social growth. They are supported by guidance for teachers on integrating them into lessons, facilitating discussions, and adapting activities for diverse student groups. Educators can mix and match nuggets according to classroom needs, creating a flexible and personalised learning experience.
