Cultural Heritage: The Challenges of Diversity
This event is a collaboration between EPALE UK, EPALE Ireland and AONTAS marking the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
Celebrating cultural heritage can be far from straightforward in today's society and, certainly on the island of Ireland, it has been a difficult topic for adult educators. In Northern Ireland cultural heritage can be used as a means of expressing the core community conflict - is there parity of esteem for the different cultures? Is one more deserving of legal protection than another? Is it all black and white? The island of Ireland has undergone huge cultural shifts in the past few decades, including the influx of a great diversity of cultures, and it can seem alien and even intimidating for some.
This free event will bring together thinkers and practitioners from across the island to share their experiences of helping people and communities work through these challenges. Add your voice to the discussion by registering and joining us at the Dromantine Retreat and Conference Centre in Newry, NI.
As part of this event you will hear from the Irish Heritage Council, NI Community Relations Council & Heritage Lottery Fund, the Ulster Museum, Smashing Times Theatre Company and the Inter Ethnic Forum (East & Mid Antrim) and as an attendees you will have the opportunity offer your learning and practice to others across Europe who are also struggling with similar problems.
