Compendium for teachers of basic skills for adults
The past few years partners from Spain, Turkey, the Netherlands, Germany and Norway worked on the SEA project: Specialization for European Teachers of Basic Skills for Adults. The overall aim of SEA was to improve the delivery of literacy & basic skills courses for adults through adequately trained teachers. Objectives were:
To gather expertise in the partner countries on competences needed for workers and volunteers in adult education in general and basic skills teachers in particular.
•To agree on a list of criteria training curricula, methods and materials should comply to in terms of knowledge and competences.
•To discuss current curricula, methods and materials used in partner countries, in relation to this list of criteria.
•To realize a list of recommendations on training content and curriculum for the training of basic skills teachers, both professionals and volunteers.
SEA was a Grundtvig Learning Partnership that brought together European researchers, teacher training institutions and education providers of basic skills training for adults from October 2013 until may 2015. There was also a narrow cooperation with the European Basic Skills Network (EBSN).
The list of recommendations on training content and curriculum for the training of basic skills teachers is now available. They can be found on EPALE or the SEA project website. On the project website is also a part for “other outcomes” like material descriptions, relevant research and relevant links.
