Bogazici University was formally established in 1971. It has four faculties, six graduate & research institutions and two schools (School of Foreign Languages and Vocational School of Applied Sciences). The four faculties are offering undergraduate studies for approximately 16,000 students. The six institutes are offering graduate programs for approximately 4.000 students. The lectures are in English at the University. There are permanently 939 academic staff and 984 administrative staff. Lifelong Learning Centre is the unit responsible for developing, directing and coordinating the training programs which are open to everybody apart from degree programs, in order to contribute to the qualified human resources of the country. Those programs also support the education beyond the high school and the university. The Centre has extensive experience in vocational programs and vocational/career guidance.
Bogazici University gives a crucial importance to the area of lifelong learning. Therefore, since its foundation, Bogazici University Lifelong Learning Center (BULLC) has been achieved a good reputation with its involvement in EU projects which are specialized especially on the vocational education and training. The latest ones of these EU projects are DISTINC coordinated by BULLC and the other ongoing projects in which BULLC is an active partner. BULLC is also highly interested in the problematic issues in education and training, especially on the drop-out phenomena and early school leavings. During 2013-2015 period, BULLC has played a very active role in THEATRE Project, which is an EU Erasmus Transfer of Innovation Project aimed to cope with drop-out phenomena with theatrical and drama methods. After the finalization of this project, BULLC has started to adapt this methodology to its trainings for teachers, trainers and other educational authorities.
