Erasmus+ best practices, Environmental awareness.

Since the official launch of the Programme in the year 2014, Erasmus+ has included “Environment and climate change” as one of the possible topics that could be addressed by project proposals. In this article, we will discover how big has been the effort of EU organisations in promoting innovative actions within this field, with a specific focus on Adult mobility and strategic partnership projects.

First of all, it is important to underline that only in 2020 the Erasmus+ Programme Guide has listed the “Environmental and climate goals” among the Horizontal priorities for the selection of KA2 Strategic Partnerships project proposals.
A great news for all those adult education organisations who are willing to exchange good practices or scale-up and develop innovative outputs with the aim to support awareness-raising about environmental and climate-change challenges. Indeed, “priority will be given to projects aimed at developing competences in various sustainability-relevant sectors, developing green sectorial skills strategies and methodologies, as well as future-oriented curricula that better meet the needs of individuals. The programme will also support the testing of innovative practices to prepare learners, staff and youth workers to become true factors of change (e.g. save resources, reduce energy use and waste, compensate carbon footprint emissions, opt for sustainable food and mobility choices, etc.). Priority will also be given to projects that – through education, training, youth and sport activities - enable behavioural changes for individual preferences, consumption habits, and lifestyles”.
(European Commission. 2019. Erasmus+ Programme Guide. Pag. 101, Version 1 (2020): 05-11-2019)

Therefore, whether you are looking for partners or you want to get inspired by previously and ongoing funded projects, we strongly recommend you to visit the Erasmus+ Project Results platform, a database providing access to descriptions, results and contact information of all projects funded under the Erasmus+ programme and also to  some of the projects funded under its predecessor programmes in the field of education, training, youth and sports.

If you are searching for projects focusing on environment and climate change, you will find a list of 5300 results, out of which 124 are Mobility projects for adult education staff and 75 are Strategic partnerships for adult education. Almost 200 different transnational initiatives are available to be selected and added to a virtual booklet, which can be easily printed in PDF for better reading and sharing with your colleagues.

Here below, you can find a selection of particularly well managed projects which can be a source of inspiration; in fact, such projects obtained the “Good practice” label from the European Commission:
