The Information Society Development Foundation (FRSI) is a non-governmental organization which helps use global trends in communication technologies for local development. FRSI was established in 2008 by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation.

FRSI helps inhabitants of small communities use the potential offered by information and communication technologies (ICT). As a result they have access to practical knowledge. They learn to solve concrete problems of their communities and pursue their aspirations. They look for new ideas creatively and act jointly in applying the ideas in practice.

FRSI’s key values are:

• QUALITY: We operate on a comprehensive and long-term basis. We introduce sustainable changes in local communities. We investigate accurately the impact of the activities we undertake and reflect on the ways of performing these activities.
• PARTNERSHIP: We cooperate with non-governmental sector, business and public administration. We care about synergies. We respect individuality of participants of our activities. We share our experience and knowledge
• INNOVATION: We constantly seek new manners of action based on an analysis of needs, challenges and national and global trends.

We are putting our mission in practice by carrying out activities aimed at strengthening local institutions and organizations – in particular libraries and NGOs. We support their potential so that they operate in a modern way and stimulate creativity and community engagement of local residents.

A particular role in implementation of our mission is played by libraries, especially the participants of the Library Development Program in Poland – an undertaking of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation managed by the Information Society Development Foundation aimed at transforming more than 3,800 public libraries in rural areas and small towns into modern, multi-function information, cultural and education centers stimulating civic involvement. Between 2009-2015 the Program was implemented in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
