Description of the Organization – Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico of Milan is one of the leading Italian academic institutions for research activity and hosts a national referral clinical center of Infectious Diseases that is currently coordinating the clinical activity on SARS-CoV-2 infection. In the context of recent pandemic, IRCCS CA GRANDA has admitted over 1.000 patients and established a Biobank including over 10.000 samples from the city of Milan and the surrounding districts. This has led to the collection of a large amount of data that can be used to answer essential questions from a genetic, viral and biological point of view.
The Unit of Infectious Diseases, headed by prof. Andrea Gori, has relevant experience in the study of viral infections and specifically in the research area of immune-pathogenesis of viral infections and mechanisms of interaction between the viruses and the host as well as in the treatment of critically ill patients, with particular regard to acute respiratory failure, lung infection, extracorporeal support and chest imaging. Prof. Gori’s Unit is on the front line of the COVID-19 fight. |
