Early Media Education in Kindergarten: EduSkills+Media2

In a world where 22% of children under the age of six already own a digital device, promoting media literacy from an early age is becoming increasingly important. The European project EduSkills+Media2 addresses this need and pursues a holistic approach to media education in kindergartens. EduSkills+Media2 builds on the success of its predecessor project and expands its objectives:

  • Educators are equipped with practical methods to integrate media education playfully into everyday kindergarten routines.
  • Parents receive support to better understand and guide their children’s media use.
  • Children learn to critically question media and use it creatively, not just as consumers, but as active creators.

The goal is to establish a learning partnership between educational staff, parents, and children to foster safe and reflective media use together.

Concrete Outcomes and Materials

The project is developing a wide range of materials, including:

  • The EduSkills+Media Toolbox, featuring introductory texts, hands-on activities, and parent information.
  • Innovative media education activities, specifically designed and tested for use in kindergartens.
  • An enhanced online platform that facilitates exchange and collaboration between educational institutions and families.

Several materials and activities are already available on the project website:👉 media.eduskills.plus

International Collaboration

The project is supported by a strong consortium:

  • Inter-kulturo d.o.o., Vrtec Tezno Maribor and Časoris (Slovenia)
  • Aktion Kinder- und Jugendschutz Brandenburg and Studio Gaus GmbH (Germany)
  • Dječji vrtić Pčelica (Croatia)

EduSkills+Media2 demonstrates how media education in kindergarten can succeed: practical, creative, and participatory. The project offers valuable impulses for professionals and parents to support children on their journey toward becoming competent and responsible media users.
