Block.Ed: Building Trust in Microcredentials

Block.Ed delivers first key tools to build a trustworthy digital microcredential system powered by blockchain.

Block.Ed – Building the Foundations for Trustworthy Microcredentials

The Block.Ed project is gaining momentum, following its timeline and goals with confidence. After completing its six-month setup phase in March 2025, the project has already delivered several key outputs that pave the way for a smarter, blockchain-based microcredentials ecosystem.

In recent months, the consortium has developed several key resources designed to support adult educators, institutions, and training providers:

🔹 An Analysis of International Frameworks, summarizing best practices and trends from across Europe and beyond. This research lays the foundation for a unified approach to validation, aligned with real-world needs and educational diversity.

🔹 A Guide for Designing Microcredentials, which outlines how to create, assess, and implement microcredentials that are meaningful, measurable, and relevant. It also explores how blockchain technology can boost credibility and learner control — while addressing the challenges of digital trust.

🔹A Validation Framework for Microcredentials, offering clear criteria and quality standards informed by international best practices. It includes tools for peer review, expert feedback, and self-assessment — ensuring that microcredentials are not only recognized but also trusted.Together, these outputs form the basis for the Block.Ed course currently in development — a practical learning pathway for adult educators and institutions eager to explore the potential of microcredentials and blockchain in education. All 3 outputs were peer reviewed within the project partnership.

Next stop: The project partners are now getting ready for the internal testing of the course materials at the upcoming partner meeting in Greece. This testing phase will help validate the content and ensure it truly meets the needs of the adult education community. Step by step we are getting closer to the course piloting in project partner countries.

Together, we're rethinking how learning is recognized — one credential at a time.

Microcredentials?  Sounds like "Magnificently good ideas!"
