EPALE and Erasmus+ Conference 2022: Life Skills as a Focus in Adult Education
Life skills are building blocks for independence and self-efficacy. They include various abilities that enable adults to continue learning on a lifelong basis and to solve problems in order to lead independent lives and participate in society.
In connection with the overarching theme of life skills, the 2022 EPALE and Erasmus+ Conference will present successful approaches in adult education for imparting reading, writing, and mathematical skills as well as competences related to finance, digital technology, health, civil society, and the environment.
The promotion of life skills is action 8 of the European Skills Agenda and as such is also emphasised as an important objective of adult education programmes in the course of the Erasmus+ 2021–2027 programme. Life skills go beyond the concept of basic competences because they do more than merely foster a basis for survival. The life skills-based approach in adult education benefits individuals, organisations, and communities by increasing participation in adult education and contributing to the establishment of integrative societies and sustainable environments.
In order to achieve goals such as the green transition and digital transition, it will be essential to learn new skills. In this way, adult education offerings will shape the future of Europe through projects in the course of the Erasmus+ programme and through active participation in the EPALE platform.
