Career Management Skills Conference

Slovačka, Bratislava
Monday, May 18, 2015 - 16:00 CEST to Tuesday, May 19, 2015 - 16:45 CEST

The National Lifelong Learning Institute (Národný ústav celoživotného vzdelávania, NÚCŽV) together with the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic invite to the international conference CAREER MANAGEMENT SKILLS, which will be held under the auspices of Juraj Draxler, Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic on 18 and 19 May 2015 in hotel Devin in Bratislava.

Career management skills are an important part of success on the labour market. It is essential to develop them already at the level of primary education. They represent a set of competences that provide a structural way for individuals to collect, analyse, synthesize and organize information about themselves, about education and the labour market - especially, the knowledge of strengths, weaknesses, needs and requirements of the individual, the ability to identify relevant opportunities, the access to information about career possibilities, the ability to plan and make decisions related to one´s career, the ability of self-presentation related to access to education or to work and the ability to establish relationships.

Career management skills were defined for the first time at the European level in the Resolution of the Council and of the Representatives of the Governments of the Member States, meeting within the Council of 21 November 2008 on better integrating lifelong guidance into lifelong learning strategies (2008/C 319/02). Through this Resolution, the European Union invites Member States to:

  • reinforce the role of lifelong guidance within national policies,
  • in case of need, research the policies and procedures in field of guidance at the national level,
  • according to national contexts and legislation and as a lifelong assistance in cases of temporary situations of citizens use these principles (priority areas):
    • support the acquisition of lifelong career management skills,
    • improve the access to consulting services for all citizens,
    • develop the quality guarantee of consulting services,
    • promote coordination and cooperation among various stakeholders at the national, regional and local level.

Representatives of the Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Austria and Scotland will provide the exchange of quality practice in their presentations, they will provide insights into addressing the issues of career management skills in their countries, as well as the view of the European Lifelong Guidance Policy Network (ELGPN).
