The handbook “Capacity building toolkit to CSOs” is the final output of the EuropeAid project “Robust and connected civil society for Refugees” (project reference TR2015/DG/01/A3-01 EuropeAid/159606/ID/ACT/TR). 

The overall objective of the ROBUST project was to support development of civil society through more active democratic participation in policy and decision-making processes and through provision of more sustainable and effective services. The project wanted to improve the capacity of CSOs for a better civil dialogue participation and reputation working with asylum seekers in Istanbul and Gaziantep, providing them with information on strategic planning, sensitivity to gender issues, research analysis, human resources, financial management, transparency, accountability, project management, monitoring of results, diversifying financial resources, lobbying, advocacy and mentoring. 

The lead applicant of the project is KADEM (Woman and Democracy Association), based in Istanbul, Turkey, and CEIPES (International Centre for the Promotion of Education and Development), based in Palermo, Italy. 

Thanks to an initial need analysis, the Consortium identified lacks of the CSOs that work with Syrian refugees. This handbook was written, thanks to the contribution of experts and academicians, in order to make more effective, sustainable and coherent CSOs’ work.
