Principles of Geoinformatics and Digital Cartography through the use of Open Source S/W

Geoinformatics and Digital Cartography are routinely employed through Geographic Information Systems (GIS) towards the acquisition, storage, management, display, analysis, and distribution of geographic information, thus supporting a wide range of social and environmental decisions, both in the private and public sectors. As relevant geospatial technologies continuously adapt to new advancements, there is a corresponding need for training and specialization of scientists and engineers, practitioners and educators, towards enhancing their capacity in collecting, managing and analyzing geospatial information, the volume and use of which increases with unprecedented pace.
This course aims at introducing participants to the basic concepts of Geoinformatics and Digital Cartography, illustrating their relevance to studies involving geographical data through the use of specialized, free, open source software; namely QGIS https://qgis.org and the Leaflet JavaScript library https://leafletjs.com.
