Lifelong Learning Open Day at Msida Centre

Lifelong Learning’s philosophy was perfectly embodied in the variety of workshops and talks available throughout the day.

On the 31st of May, the Msida Centre came alive with colour, creativity, and curiosity as Lifelong Learning hosted its much-anticipated Open Day. This event was designed to give the public a taste of what’s in store with the upcoming course programme, which officially launches on the 25th of June.

With doors open to all, whether you're 15 or 60+, the event was a celebration of learning at every stage of life.

The Open Day showcased the wide variety of courses Lifelong Learning offers, providing an exciting hands-on glimpse into everything from practical skills to personal enrichment. The message was clear: it’s never too early or too late to discover something new.

A Buzzing Atmosphere of Discovery

From the moment you stepped into the Msida Centre, the energy was palpable. Each course had its own dedicated stand, thoughtfully curated to draw people in with engaging demonstrations and displays. Whether it was the delicate finesse of beading techniques, the precise stitching of basic sewing, or the artistic flair of interior design, every corner offered a doorway to a new skill.

Attendees could look at and enjoy handcrafted crochet and patchwork pieces, get inspired by gilding demonstrations, or roll up their sleeves to try their hand at creative knitting or woodwork.

Language and Culture in Every Corner

The Open Day was also a linguistic feast, with passionate language educators introducing attendees to a world of new tongues. Visitors could try out language taster sessions in Chinese, Greek, Italian, English, and more. These short, interactive classes gave a fun insight into the full-length language courses available; ideal for anyone planning to travel, reconnect with heritage or boost their communication skills.

Learning for Life...and Living

Lifelong Learning’s philosophy was perfectly embodied in the variety of workshops and talks available throughout the day. Throughout the day, there were a variety of practical sessions including gardening and cake mastery. These courses don’t just build hobbies but they inspire personal growth, confidence, and, for some, even career change.

A particular highlight was the Cake Decoration Competition which showcased astonishing creativity. Participants presented intricate, themed cakes that were colourful, detailed, and full of imagination. The competition drew an enthusiastic crowd and sparked conversations around the value of culinary art as both a skill and a form of self-expression.

Talks that Sparked Ideas

In addition to the hands-on activities, the Open Day also featured a full programme of talks and mini-lectures designed to inspire and inform. Visitors could attend sessions on AI and its relevance in daily life, managing people, transforming your CV, and how to go to an interview; ideal for those looking to boost their employability or switch careers.

Workshops like the language tasters and motivational talks about course content helped prospective students understand what to expect, ask questions, and connect with tutors. The Guidance Team was available for one-on-one chats throughout the day, offering personalised advice on which course might best suit each visitor’s interests and goals.

A Welcoming and Supportive Community

One of the most striking features of the Lifelong Learning Open Day was the sense of community. Attendees mingled with educators, alumni, and curious newcomers, forming connections that went beyond the day itself. The event wasn’t just about showcasing courses; it was about engaging in a culture of shared learning and mutual encouragement.

Educators were approachable and passionate, eager to share their knowledge and answer questions.

Looking Ahead: The New Course Programme Launch

With such a successful turnout and enthusiastic participation, the Open Day served as the perfect prelude to the official launch of the new course programme on the 25th of June. The upcoming courses promise to be just as diverse and enriching, covering everything from languages and crafts to professional development and personal hobbies.

The Lifelong Learning Open Day at the Msida Centre was an invitation to grow, to try, and to connect. With a variety of courses, engaging workshops, and inspiring talks, it opened doors to opportunities and reminded all who attended that learning is truly a lifelong journey.
