Consultation on "Rethinking Education: Towards a Global Common Good?"

Belgía, Brussels Belgium
Þriðjudagur, október 11, 2016 - 10:00 CEST

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA) and the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) are pleased to invite you to the civil society regional consultation:

The Right to education of youth and adults from a lifelong learning perspective in Europe
‘Rethinking education: Towards a global common good?’*

The consultation will take place on 11 October 2016 from 10.00 – 16.00: at the European Parliament (10.00 – 12.00) in Brussels and at Mundo-J, Rue de l'Industrie 10 (12.30 – 16.00). The event will be organised in the framework of the Lifelong Learning Week in Brussels, which in 2016 will be coordinated by Lifelong Learning Platform and the European Youth Forum, enabling broad participation from lifelong learning and youth sector. The idea of organising Lifelong Learning Weeks aims to raise awareness about Lifelong Learning in Europe and to put forward the need to adopt a holistic approach at all levels of decision-making, implementation and evaluation. It brings together all the sectors of Lifelong Learning and in 2016 also all the European youth organisations.

“Rethinking education: Towards a global common good?” (UNESCO, 2015) was published at a particular historical juncture in the framework of the definition of the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. The content of the publication encourages public debate among education stakeholders, and different sectors, to rethink the purpose and structure of education in the face of present and future challenges and the targets set by SDG 4 and Education 2030.

In this spirit, UNESCO and ICAE propose a space for consultation and discussion with regional civil society organisations and networks, and other actors working in the field of youth and adult education.

The consultation proposal is:

  • to reflect on the regional challenges of youth and adult education in the current world, and
  • to share strategies, programs and practices that allow to ensure an inclusive, equitable and quality education; as well as lifelong and life-wide learning opportunities for all.

Please find the agenda of the event here.

Register now.

Registrations will be open until 5 October 2016.

For reimbursement opportunities, please contact EAEA secretariat.
