Waste banana logs in greenhouses turn into souvenirs in the hands of women
Women who receive handicraft training in Mersin's Akdeniz district both make a profit and contribute to the Zero Waste Project with souvenirs such as bags, hats and lampshades made from fibers from banana stumps.
Mersin
Banana stumps, which are cut because they have lost their function, are turned into products in the handicraft workshop established in İhsaniye District 9 months ago by the Mediterranean District Governor's Family Support Center and the Mediterranean Colored Hands Women's Initiative Production and Business Cooperative.
"They both learn a profession and earn income"
Expressing that banana fibers turn into products that attract attention with the handiwork of women, the official said: "Our trainees both learn a profession and contribute to their family economy with the income they earn."
"We do a good job of recycling waste"
The master trainer said: "I think we are doing a good job in recycling wastes in nature. Our trainees have endless excitement. We work on the tree trunk, which will go to waste, in a completely inactive state, and produce various items using natural materials. Hopefully, we will reach a much wider audience in the future."
