ENGLISH TEACHERS' PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING: ENGLISH TOGETHER
Turkish Minister of National Education participated in the "English together - Promotion Program for Professional Development Education of English teachers that was organized in cooperation with the General Directorate of Teacher Training and Development, the British Council and the Sabanci Foundation. He said: "We have put forward a practical and functional, unique model that includes professional solidarity, cooperation, exemplary practices and activities. The training has been launched in 23 provinces for the spread of the project. 550 English English teachers and more than 50 thousand students in 19 districts in Ankara and the pilot phase of the project has been completed to spread throughout Turkey and 37 thousand English teachers and about 16 million students in three years is aimed to be reached.
Minister of NAtional Education, Dr. Selçuk, said:
"We have taken a very important step towards this model with the continuous development of English Teachers program and the 'English Together' project carried out in this context, and we have developed a model specific to Turkey. First, we based the field, not only the literature. We went from the field to the literature. We have put forward a practical and functional, unique model that includes professional solidarity, cooperation, exemplary practices and activities. As part of the project, our English teachers receive simultaneous training from Edinburgh College educators through distance education. In order to support this process, we established 'Professional Learning Communities' in Ankara, where the pilot application was made. These communities, consisting of 9 groups of English teachers from 19 districts of Ankara, came together with face-to-face and online meetings."
The project aims to promote modern language teaching methods and techniques by supporting the professional and individual development of English teachers working in secondary schools and to increase the effectiveness of Foreign Language Teaching.
