The Competence Framework defines knowledge, skills, responsibility and autonomy needed for home-based childminders dealing with children with autism. It also includes the learning design to achieve the defined competences.
Thus, this output aims:
• to define core skills to support childminders in order to positively and effectively deal with children with autism in line with the guidelines and choices of their families;
• to define learning outcomes, and learning units to develop the identified skills;
• to ensure compliance with EQF, ECVET and EQAVET principles;
• to define the competence framework with the stakeholders.
The ChildIN competence framework has been developed on the basis of EQF 3 level and for a total length of 35 hours. Two major blocs gather 30 learning outcomes on effective communication with parents and health professionals, on one hand, and on the other hand on the interaction with children with autism (creation of a safe environment, support in the daily life and participation to the development of social interactions of the child).
A first version was elaborated thanks to desk research, as well as a field research done via questionnaires in France collecting 13 responses from parents of children with autism, 24 responses from childminders and 568 responses from professionals who have followed IPERIA’s training module “Taking care of a child with autism” (A1 – A3).
This version was presented during the three focus groups organised in Nevers (France) on the 10th of April 2019, in Olsztyn (Poland) on the 15th of April 2019 and in Coimbra (Portugal) on the 29th of April 2019 with a total of 33 participants, 16, 7 and 10 respectively (A2).
Finally, the external expert WIAB (The Viennese Institute for Labour Market and Education Research) reviewed the document and focused especially on the formulation of each unit and learning outcome, in terms of knowledge, skills autonomy and responsibility (A4). This enabled the creation of the final version (A5). This output is published under open licence Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-ND 4.0).
The output is an essential tool for promoting and facilitating the creation of a harmonized training provision for home-based childminders (practically non-existent according to the available information of partners) as well as for enhancing the quality of the home-based care of children with autism. Its transferability potential is very high, since the competence framework and the learning architecture were developed with the contribution of the partners from different contexts and EU member states, the output could be applicable in other member states and beyond.
