Anna Stanclik: encouraging students to become successful

Now I rely on my intuition more than on my senses. One thing is certain, education has taken on a completely different dimension.

Short Bio

I am a researcher and assistant professor at the Chair of Chemical Processes Engineering and Technology of the Wrocław University of Technology. I love working with young people. I believe in their potential and capabilities. This is why I work as a tutor and career designer. On my website I share my knowledge and experience in career planning, talent discovery and personal branding.


I am just getting to know EPALE. I am becoming familiar with resources and contents posted on the platform. I want to have a look at good practices in tutoring in other European countries. I am also considering publishing soon some blog posts.

My Story

When I was a teenager, I didn't know what I wanted to be in the future. I wavered between medicine, journalism and arts. What I definitely lacked at that time was support and advice from a mentor or tutor. In the end, I chose to study technology and although it was more of a coincidence than an informed decision, today I find my teaching and research work fulfilling. At the same time, I am gaining knowledge and experience in career planning, talent discovery, personal branding, new labour market trends, communication, education management and team management.

Thanks to pursuing my passions, I have gained new qualifications as a career designer and tutor. This allows me to carry out my mission, which is to help people discover their interests and skills, so that everyone can feel satisfied and fulfilled in their work and become experts in their fields. My position is unique, because I can observe the development of students and encourage them to become successful. I appreciate that they place their trust in me. By showing them ways of solving problems and overcoming difficulties, I develop my own skills and find inspiration for my work.

I want to make sure that as many students as possible can experience personalised education. This is why I have taken on the role of a leader in a team responsible for the implementation of the tutoring model and the coordinator for tutor education at the Wrocław University of Technology. Our project is described on the website: beginning of the pandemic was one of the most challenging periods in my professional career. Despite the development of technology and the availability of various systemic solutions, we found ourselves in a very difficult situation. To us lecturers, educators, trainers this was a big change. The change we experienced called for great commitment, flexibility and creativity. We had to prepare new materials and master new platforms for online classes. We had to adapt our style of working, discover new methods to engage students, and develop new techniques for testing knowledge gained in the class. I believe that all these aspects have strongly influenced the overall well-being of university teachers. Over time, the sudden changes have brought great fatigue, and even frustration. They showed how much there is still to be done in the area of remote education and education in general.

First of all, I had to get accustomed to a new way of teaching. The beginning was difficult for everyone, both for me and the students. I had to find ways to engage students and to interact with them. This is not an easy task when you cannot see the people you are talking to. It is completely different in a lecture hall. I can see who is interested, who is daydreaming or when the audience is weary and needs a break or a change of subject. Now I rely on my intuition more than on my senses. I look for ways to reach the audience and to convey knowledge in an interesting and valuable way. I think that despite the lack of face-to-face contact, it is possible. Interestingly, during the pandemic, the screen that divides us paradoxically gives students courage. More people have turned up for consultations and asked questions during classes.

On the one hand, over the next few years, we will certainly focus on two areas: improving the competences of academic teachers in delivering and evaluating online classes, and on personalised education. On the other hand, we will wonder to what extent remote teaching and the tools we have introduced into our daily practice as educators will stay with us. However, one thing is certain, education has taken on a completely different dimension.

Jako nauczycielkę bardzo ciekawi mnie to, co stanie się z całym ,,dorobkiem" nauczania zdalnego z okresu pandemii w zakresie nauczania w szkołach podstawowych i ponadpodstawowych. Uważam, że pewne elementy edukacji online można by wykorzystywać nadal w pracy z uczniem zdolnym, na przykład przy przygotowaniu uczniów  do konkursów czy organizując kółka rozwijające zainteresowania.

Dziękuję za podzielenie się swoim doświadczeniem. Z ciekawością "przysłuchuję" się doświadczeniom nauczycieli i nauczycieli akademickich dotyczących ich doświadczeń  w nauczaniu online. Cieszy mnie fakt, iż odgórnie uczelnia wyznacza kierunek wsparcia wykładowców w prowadzeniu zajęć online. Myślę, że to bardzo ważne, ponieważ umiejętności i doświadczenia w tym zakresie są bardzo bardzo różnicowane. 

Ja prowadzę zajęcia na studiach podyplomowych. Na chwilę przed ich rozpoczęciem podjęto decyzję, że kolejna edycja także będzie miała wymiar zdalny. Umiejętności z zakresu nowych technologii, wykorzystywania narzędzi są ważne, ale te, o których Pani wspomina, jak indywidualizacja nauczania - również.
