This report looks at six very different groups undertaking literacy work with adults. The work of the groups and their facilitators ranges from those using a cultural event to advance literacy learning and those looking closer at learning to learn as part of literacy. The six case studies presented in this report highlight literacy and numeracy practice as it happens on the ground. Each case study illustrates how the individual programmes are providing a range of courses to meet the varying and specific needs of the students attending.

Deutschland ist ein Einwanderungsland. Diese Erkenntnis ist nicht neu. Deutschland wird nicht nur durch Einwanderung zunehmend pluralistischer. Wie können kritische Bürgerkompetenzen im Rahmen vielfältiger Vorstellungen und Deutungsmuster vermittelt werden? Wie können wir junge Menschen auf eine europäisierte und globalisierte Gesellschaft vorbereiten? Beschäftigen wir uns zu wenig oder gar zu oft nur mit Migrationshintergründen? Labour market training for adult unemployed has a long tradition in Sweden and constitutes a significant part of the Swedish ALMP. Since the global financial crisis and the considerable increase of the rate of unemployment in Sweden, labour market training has focused mainly on long-term unemployed and persons that run a high risk of leaving the labour force. A high number of refugees/immigrants have also been enrolled in labour market training as a step to enhance their integration into Swedish society and the labour market.

The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) is a mechanism which was established by the first Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe member States. The decision to establish ECRI is contained in the Vienna Declaration adopted by the first Summit on 9 October 1993. On 13 June 2002, the Committee of Ministers adopted an autonomous Statute for ECRI and thus consolidated its role as an independent human rights monitoring mechanism specialised in questions relating to racism and intolerance.

O envelhecimento populacional combinado com a inovação tecnológica reforça a infoexclusão entre a população idosa, enfatizando a necessidade de promover a inclusão digital como estratégia de envelhecimento ativo. Em contexto informal, desenvolveu-se um programa de inclusão digital, ancorado na fotografia enquanto prática pedagógica, dirigido a idosos residentes em lar de terceira idade. Este trabalho tem como objetivo explorar a perceção do idoso sobre a inovação tecnológica, assim como a dimensão social do lembrar. Através de uma metodologia de investigação-ação, 77 idosos com idades entre os 50 e os 100 anos participaram ao longo de 5 meses em diversas atividades. Os dados foram recolhidos através de fotografias, notas de campo, registos audio e observações. Os resultados ilustram a contribuição desta prática pedagógica na valorização da aprendizagem, da socialização entre o grupo e do sentido de identidade entre os idosos.

Este artigo apresenta algumas das razões que motivam um número cada vez mais significativo de seniores a participar nas designadas universidades seniores. Por outro lado, visa compreender de que modo as vivências e as aprendizagens aí desenvolvidas influenciam a adaptação dos seniores a esta etapa específica das suas vidas. A partir do testemunho de alguns alunos seniores, evidencia-se o interesse pela atualização e pela aquisição de novos saberes como principal motivação. Sem esquecer que estas instituições promovem a sociabilidade, o bem-estar e a realização pessoal de quem as frequenta, bem como uma perceção otimizada de si próprio, do seu papel social e do envelhecimento. Assim, estes espaços contribuem não só para a valorização daqueles que alcançaram a longevidade, mas também para o fim de representações estereotipadas e discriminatórias que concebem os «velhos» enquanto seres inativos.
