Adult Digital Literacy

The aim of this group is to explore and understand the best way to promote adult literacy and digital inclusion in the European context.
Taking as a starting point the sharing of models and practices already implemented in different countries and contexts, the main idea is to promote and deepen the technological-pedagogical knowledge of all those who work directly with adults. Whether in formal contexts of learning, but especially in informal contexts. Including the elderly who actually are away from a day-to-day use of digital technologies and, therefore, far from the full exercise of citizenship.

Dear all, It's my pleasure to announce the English version of the LIDIA e-Book integrating a set of activities for digital inclusion of adults. Is accessible also in the Resources folder: https://ec.europa.eu/epale/en/resource-centre/content/activities-digital... This book includes 20 proposals of activities utilizing technologies that have been specially designed to promote the digital literacy and inclusion of all citizens, but especially adults with fewer opportunities to access and use the potential which technological developments have made available. It wants to be a stimulus and inspiration of what can be done with technology to promote an effective citizenship. The target users are teachers, cultural entertainers, education experts and professionals working in the social field in formal and non-formal contexts, who intervene and realize actions for target groups who are typically less integrated into the information society. These include professionals responsible for the areas of culture, education and the social actions of city and town halls, private social solidarity institutions, cultural and recreational associations, museums, senior universities, day centers, as well as teachers and other educators. These suggestions for activities using digital technologies were designed and developed taking into consideration situations in which the adult citizen encounters difficulties in acting independently because they do not know how to use digital technologies. We hope it will be useful in your contexts! The Portuguese team of the LIDIA Project (Adult Digital Inclusion Project)

I was wondering whether these guidelines are really sufficient. Personally, they come across as a bit modest and not fundamental enough to really make a difference with regard digital literacy. What do you think?

It is a free resource that you can use to complete short modules or 'badges' and is for learners of all ages and levels. Badges range from how to stay safe online to coding and last from 10 minutes upwards.

Media Literacy: Good media literacy helps adults to develop critical thinking skills necessary for distinguishing credible and true information from ‘fake news’. It also empowers adults to take part in the democratic process by applying critical thinking to make informed voting decisions.

The DIGIT project launched in November 2017 and aims to familiarize the adult trainers with the DIGITAL FOOTPRINT concept and increase their competence in this field.

Our activities are based on the development of a training model, a set of materials and content on an online platform that will provide educators with the necessary tools to ultimately help adults and seniors manage their data and image online in a secure way. More information about the project can be found in the attachment (DIGIT flyer short description).

The goal is to provide different kind of suggestions to all who work with adults, so they can feel more confortable how to support adults, especially the elderly, entering in the digital world.

All the activities created will be translated to English comming soon.

I am new to this group.

I wish to comment on what Fernando posted especially on the phrase "But the traditional role of the educator increasingly changes into that of a coach, a facilitator and a moderator."

This is not only true to adult education but also to mainstream education. It has been a couple of decades since we have been saying teachers are teaching less and leading more because of more access to information on the web, more autonomous learning etc.
