Hello everyone!

Hi everyone,

Just in the Ambassador training and have seen this space. Hello everyone, hope you are all well and sorry I couldn't attend the last meeting

...so how are we going to use this space and who can we invite? :-)

My name is John Gates and I am a learner. I have been involved in adult learning for 40 years. In that time I have worked my way through Community education to learn practical skills woodwork and metal work. I went through further education at a local college to do "O" Levels. I have also taken part in higher education to gain a degree with the Open University and then back to collage to gain a PGCE.

Because of my experience and love of learning, I have been asked to join several working parties, steering groups and committees. I know and have experienced the benefits of a second chance education.

I hate to see what is happening to MY community education. I claim that as a member of the community. I wish the politicians would stop playing about with education and get around to asking the real stakeholders in education the learners what they want and need and stop telling them what will get.

You can tell I have a soapbox to stand on.

My name is Amy Kordiak and I work for Chwarae Teg (economical development organisation in Wales, working to reduce the Gender Pay Gap) and manage their work overseas. I am a Youth and Community worker by profession and couldn't agree more with John's comment. With the public sector cuts, youth and community work has been devalued and cut right back which is such a shame as it's a positive inroad in re-engaging learners and enabling people to shape their services and decide their own learning pathway.

Maybe we could get a list together as Gayle suggested of people who might be interested in this platform to encourage discussions and to raise awareness of what is happening in the rest of Europe.

    Hi all,

It might be useful to post a "Starter for 10", so that people who register and join the Community of Practice have something to engage with, rather than look at an empty space.

We found an introduction section useful (who people are, what they do).

As well as have a discussion topic going from the start.

    Hope this helps.

Hi Amy, hope you're well. At the last reference group we agreed to set this up as a platform to try and get some engagement and discussion going amongst the ACL community in Wales. We thought it could be paticularly useful to discuss the new Welsh Government ACL policy and the on-going discussions around possible models of delivery going forward. I guess it's a case of flagging up amongst our various networks and getting folks to sign up and get engaged in the site and this forum.

Hi Amy, how did the training go?  I'm interested in doing the training but want to know more about it.

    Hi Pam,

The training was really useful and I am now working with the wider team at Chwarae Teg to think of ways we can promote the platform and get more content on there.

If there is another training coming up, I think it would be worthwhile you attending it or alternatively, the basics could be covered on a Skype for business call or using a webinar? Speak to Christine and see what is on offer.

    Hi Amy and Pam,

I'm glad you found the training useful. The feedback from attendees has been very positive, so that's good. The next Ambassador Training will be towards the end of October (after the conference) and we'll be looking to develop the role of the ambassadors a bit more.

Pam - What aspects would you be particularly interested in? I am running a short training day with 2 new ambassadors, probably in Birmingham, date tbc, which will mainly focus on the platform itself and the different areas. Is that something you would be interested in?  We are also looking at updating a Prezzi about navigating the platform. If you could let me know what specifically you a re looking for, I can provide something tailored and maybe we can find a group of people to make it more interesting.

    All the best,

    Christine
