YEURSTAGE project
The yEUrSTAGE project (“The stage is yEUrs: Learning the language of the 'host' country through contemporary theatre approaches for adult educators towards the social inclusion of minority groups in Europe of leaving no one behind”) brings together 5 European organizations, each one having specific expertise in theatre approaches, language teaching/learning, migrants and refugees, which will exchange best practices on teaching SL through contemporary theatre approaches for the social inclusion of minority groups in Europe of leaving no one behind. The organisations will work together, learn from each other and share best practices, having as target group adult educators, SL educators, trainers/mentors/professionals involved with immigrants and refugees, with the following objectives:
1. To increase the professional development of the target groups through European collaboration, non-formal and intercultural learning involving contemporary theatre approaches for teaching SL by means of 5 short-term joint staff training events for the exchange of good practices.
2. To strengthen the networking among partners and bring together the best contemporary theatre practices to facilitate teaching SL towards the social inclusion of minority groups in European societies.
yEUrSTAGE fourth LTTA held in Thessaloniki (Greece), 10th to 14th October 2022…
The training week followed the Playback theatre approach and was developed as followed:
Working Day 1
• Welcome Activities. Introducing me- knowing you! “Face to face” Mirroring to ourselves
• Team Building
• Introducing our country and organization
• How to trust a group. Strengthen group cohesion and trust
• Exchange ideas, needs, and expectations of project organizations
• Breath in and Relaxation Activities
Working Day 2
• “The real intelligence of creativity is in you” Exploring our creativity through Social Games and Arts Activities. Using techniques of Oppressed Theatre and Social Drama. Play with our differences and experiences. Point out our Cultural Identity
• Introducing Playback Theatre: Basic theories, pioneers, aims and applications- A theoretical perspective
• “Come to Action!” Basic Playback Techniques- Warm-up activities through Body and Sounds. The “Sculpture” and the “Transformation” Techniques
• Cultural dialogues through Movement and Dances “Life is a Rhythm!”
Working Day 3
• Working with Playback techniques: “Pallet” and the “Scene”. The use of colors and materials in Playback. Wearing a “Mask”
• Making a “Chorus”! Improvising ourselves as one, the protagonist
• The role of Music at Playback Theatre. How to use the instruments at your story
• The role of the Conductor at Playback Theatre. How to become a conductor
• “Tell me your story”! Ready to improvise and play together!
Working Day 4
• “What the experts say…” Bringing the experience from the field from the views of experts:
• Social Worker “Making the first step together!”
• Psychologist “Walking against my fragments…”
• Teacher of Linguistics “How to spell my name?”
• Theater Performer “Me and You Acting Together!”
• An interpreter working with refugees “What the real truth is……” Discussion and exchanging of ideas and options
Working Day 5
• Performance of Playback Theatre Group “Echo” KOINSEP: “The Sound of your Voice- the Value of your Story”
• Evaluation of the program
• Setting new goals of collaboration for the Future/ Drawing the “Circle”
• Creating a Network
