Dear EPALE colleagues,
International Day of Older Persons and World Teachers’ Day
To celebrate International Day of Older Persons, EPALE published a lot of exciting content. If you haven’t already, check out our case study on the CINAGE project where Jennifer Granville from Leeds Beckett University talks about an innovative way of using filmmaking in active ageing (DE, EN, ES, FR, IT, PL). You can also read a compelling piece about using physical activities in informal learning with older persons (EN).
October was also the month of World Teachers’ Day. Don’t miss out the inspirational story about how an IT specialist followed his passion for teaching to become an educator, and how he got involved in the HIHTAST project (EN, NL). And for all teachers and trainers out there we have an interesting blog post with tips on how to engage adult learners (EN, ET).
News from around Europe
A lot of adult learning awards were given in October:
- In Slovenia the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology held an award ceremony for outstanding achievements in the field of education, which included an adult education award (SL).
- Meanwhile in Tallinn, Estonia, more than 10 awards were given at the 2015 Adult Learners’ Week ceremony, including Student of the year, Trainer of the year, and Training-friendly organisation for 2015 (ET).
- 1–3 October were National days for Lifelong Learning in Bulgaria where celebrations included an official award ceremony for contributions to the development of the adult learning sector (BG).
Don’t miss – blog posts
Don’t miss out the thought-provoking piece by Henrik Zipsane, visiting professor in heritage learning at Linköping University, on why museums are important for adult learning (BG, DE, ET, EN, ES, FI, FR, IT, LT, PL). And EPALE’s expert, Andrew McCoshan, wrote a compelling blog post about the challenges behind establishing European priorities for quality in adult learning (EN).
