LEARN THE LIFE - Development of the Cultural and Heritage Tourism Skills for Rural Communities

de Gudrun Larusdottir
Limba: EN

The first meeting in a new Erasmus project took place in Norway last November. The project name is: Development of the Cultural and Heritage Tourism Skills for Rural Communities - LEARN THE LIFE.

The European project «Learn the Life” is about Rural Development and the first meeting in Norway, was hosted by Hanen Viken. The project will last for two years and will focus on the connection between farm tourism and local heritage. Partners are from Norway, Iceland, Denmark, France, Croatia and Lithuania, where the coordinator is located also.

The agricultural and horticultural business is changing throughout Europe, which means that a lot of the existing buildings needs new types of use. The competence and cultural heritage of agriculture and horticulture stands as an important pillar of modern society.
HANEN in Norway, our first host, is an organization for farmers engaged in tourism and local food, so the members are important contributors to the project. The goal of the project is e.g. to develop teaching materials so the farmers will be motivated to use their heritage in their businesses.

Through presentations, study tours and a workshop where given to the participants a foundation for further development. Hanen Viken focuses on showing off both the Norwegian government policy instruments, partners and methods of doing business development.
On the first day the group had an academic conference at Smakfulle Rom, and the Mayor of Sørum kommune (municipality) did participate. The day started with presentations and concludes with a study tour to Grøndalen Gård. The second day started with two visits - Bygdøy Kongsgård and Godt og Hjemmelaget in Vestfold - before the group ended up at Holt Gård.

The group was exposed to different methods of development work. At Holt Gård on the second day the group had a workshop about connecting farm tourism and a local heritage, The historic Pilgrims Route. Vestfold fylkeskommune, Visit Vestfold, Fylkesmannen and Innovasjon Norge did attend the conference on that day. The workshop was very useful for developing connection between the historic Pilgrims Route with different offers from the farmers along the route. European partners in the project have knowledge of their own Pilgrims Route that was a nice addition to the work shop.

Our next meetings and workshops will be in March 2020 at Lystbaekken in Denmark and then in Croatia in June 2020.

Really useful for the survival of rural communities. Will you develop intellectual outputs?
