Emotional Intelligence: identify, harness & manage emotions – Online

It is widely recognized that Emotional intelligence (EI or EQ) is the ability to identify and manage your own emotions and the emotions of others. Emotional Intelligence inherently includes some essential skills, the most important of which are emotional awareness and the abilities to harness and manage emotions. The concept of EI has been embraced by many educators and educational institutions, in the last 20 years, in the form of programmes and modules focusing on ‘social & emotional learning’ (SEL) skills.

čtením, psaním a mluvením. V rámci své série blogů Satya Brink věnuje závěrečnou část mluvení, neboli řečnickým dovednostem.

Epale readers are becoming fully aware of the importance of functional literacy as a basis for Adult Learning, but somehow it seems that when we discuss literacy we forget it has to do with two connected skills i.e. reading, writing and speaking. In the framework of her blog series Satya Brink's final piece addresses speaking.

It was mentioned that the ability to establish a positive relationship between the members of international crews is an urgent issue. This ability influences not only the safety of navigation, but the mental health of seafarers as well. Foreign language competence is essential for the resolution of this problem. Successful everyday communication of seafarers depends on a number of factors: the awareness of cross-cultural, religious and cross-generational differences will help establish a friendly communication onboard a ship with an international crew.

Losing keys, misplacing a wallet, or forgetting someone’s name are common experiences. But for people nearing or over age 65, such memory lapses can be frightening. They wonder if they have Alzheimer’s disease or another type of dementia. Developing Alzheimer’s is a widespread fear of older adults. The good news is that Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. Most older adults don’t get Alzheimer’s! Fewer than 1 in 5 people age 65+ and less than half of those age 85+ have the disease.

Numeracy in the adult population is a key skill that supports the lives of all citizens and contributes to the development of jobs markets, economies and societies around the globe. Adult numeracy is, therefore, includedin the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a separate target area in indicator 4.6.1 (UN, 2020). Unfortunately, the importance of numeracy is often overlooked by policy-makers both in terms of numeracy education (for adults and in schools) and monitoring of skill levels by credible direct assessment.
