Peter Mayo: Higher Education in a Globalising World
Manchester University Press, June 2019, 160 pp

This is an incisive critique of adult education highlighting its direct bearing on the practice of democracy. It makes a rewarding and insightful read, arguing for higher education (HE) as a public good, not just a commodity for the promotion of a neoliberal global philosophy, corroding the very soul of HE. It awakens reflection on a whole range of themes related to globalisation.

TOGETHER, REINVENT WORK-BASED LEARNING – LOOKING FOR KA2 STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

Context: Europe and Erasmus+ highlight work-based learning’s interest. This pedagogic modality often informal, commonly used has extensively do its homework but needs to, according to professional qualification’s issues, be rethink, structured and more formalized to further serve the interest of the employee and the company.

Delivering a literacy-friendly service

This session aims to:

  • Explain what literacy is, its causes, effects and the extent of literacy issues
  • Explore how you identify and respond in a sensitive way and deliver a literacy-friendly service
  • Learn and apply some practical plain English guidelines in your work
  • Identify practical strategies to communicate more clearly
  • Encourage discussion, participation, and brainstorming of other effective ways to communicate

In last June, the first kick-off meeting took place in Vilnius, Lithuania in a new Nordplus project. The new project name is “Education of Older Adults: Comparing Baltic and Nordic Frameworks”, with the working title OLDER.

Coordination institute is Medardas Cobotas Third Age University (MCTAU) in Lithuania. Other partners are Latvian Adult Education Association in Latvia, Interfolk, Institute for Civil Society in Denmark and the Adult education at the Agricultural University of Iceland.
