e-Inventory on Discrimination Faced by Minorities in Europe

Part of the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership ‘We Are One’ – Altogether Better, the e-Inventory on Discrimination Faced by Minorities in Europe has been created in response to research carried out transnationally within the UK, Italy, Spain and Sweden. The project aims to share facts and figures for discrimination acts and to map e-modules and curricula across the EU, which incorporates the following themes:

  • Cultural mediation
  • Case studies and resolutions for Islamophobia
  • Online ICT courses
  • Online digital communication courses
  • Language learning courses
  • Citizenship in the EU
  • Job market workshop
  • More useful information, including links to video tutorials, online training and helpful contacts

The resource can be used as a helpful toolkit by anyone working with minority groups or who plans to in the future. Educators in particular must prepare to help ethnic minorities who are at risk of low educational attainment levels – this is a trend recognised across the participating countries. The resource also discusses the countries individually, considering the diversity among minority groups, the barriers they face, the reasons behind migration and organisations that support diversity in their workforces. There is a considerable focus on Islamophobia, as it is a widely recognised issue in all the partner countries, discussing: the number of Muslims who have felt persecution for their religion within the partner countries; the risks that this issue poses to democracy; good practice for social inclusion; and how to help migrants from this religious background to settle comfortably in western society. There is also some discussion on the problem of radicalisation and its consequences, as well as approaches to prevent it.

Other chapters within the resource focus on leading language and ICT courses, and the case of European citizenship supporting social integration, as well as good practices relating to integration. To the back of the resource, users can find a useful list of links and find out more about the project and the partner countries.

The resource is free and can easily be shared with others. Further reading on similar subjects is also supplied.
