Are you teaching reading and writing to immigrant adults, or are you interested in it? Do you want to upgrade your literacy tutoring skills? Would you like to get new culturally-sensitive methods for working with your students with a migrant background?

We invite you to a comprehensive in-service training workshop for literacy teachers and tutors. The content was designed keeping in mind the changes that are being implemented at the level of Adult Basic Education in Finland, but it can benefit also adult educators from other European countries.

Doelstellingen: 
The training targets literacy teachers or tutors and aims to improve their strategies for teaching reading and writing, including language skills, to immigrants with low- or no-literacy and/or language skills.
Verwachte leerresultaten: 
To understand the characteristics and needs of the migrant adult learner and match against the characteristics and responsibilities of a good adult literacy tutor To appreciate the diversity of migrant adult learners To develop strategies for involving learners in planning and implementing culturally suitable learning activities, drawing upon learners' experiences as a resource To analyse the Language Experience Approach and design specific instructional activities to use with students, specifically interventions for reading comprehension and experiential learning activities for developing literacy skills To analyse writing as a process and its implications (neurological, psychological, somatic, cultural), recognise the three steps of the writing process and develop appropriate techniques to develop learners' writing skills To discuss tools for record keeping and formative assessment To design activities that build teachers' effectiveness in providing instruction for migrant adults with low literacy skills
