While many Europeans struggle to find work, technology companies face a critical shortfall in ICT workers. Whilst the digital skills gap is shrinking partly as a result of European awareness raising programmes across Member States, there remains a large mismatch between demand and supply.
Many initiatives are underway to try to reduce this gap. One of these is OPENSKIMR, a pilot project funded by the European Commissions to create a tool which will match people’s skills with IT digital jobs. It will also identify training opportunities, where there is a mismatch between the person’s skills and the specific digital skills sets required for the specific job.
