This 10 days course is ideal for those working in adult education and would like to gain greater competences in migration related subject.

The course aims to describe and analyse the main characteristics of different categories of migrants, with a special focus on background and development aspects. The course takes into account forced migration and labour migration as well as additional resources a supporting organisation should have and the benefits of partnership working between stakeholders working in different fields.

Through a combination of methodology sessions, case studies, practical activities in the field, you will examine the critical role of adult education centres to help migrants in their process of settlement. 
Participants will get an insight into a range of issues affecting migrant families and explore ways to address the multitude of barriers they may face.

Behandelde thema:
To increase the competences and skills of adult education staff, linked to their professional profile and a need of education establishments to address issues associated with European migration. Increase awareness and understanding of practices, policies and systems in education with a view of supporting migrants workers and their families. Promote greater understanding and responsiveness to social, linguistic and cultural diversity in adult education. Increase ability to address the needs of the disadvantaged people. Improve participants’ confidence in developing appropriate approach and strategy to provide targeted educational support for those from migrant background. Increase capacity and international dimension of organisations active in adult education field. Allow teachers to meet colleagues of different nationalities within the EU, discuss their background and cultural differences, share ideas on official and unofficial programmes supporting integration of migrant and minority pupils, and build a network of FL teachers for future cooperation. In the long-term run, the course aims to help adult education settings create and sustain a welcoming and inclusive environment for pupils and parents from all backgrounds and ensure equal access for all.

Broader understanding of practices, policies and systems: Increased awareness of European Equality Regulations, Increased awareness of UK Education system and methods used in UK schools to meet needs of the disadvantaged students. Better quality of the work through: increased knowledge of new methods and approaches, greater understanding and responsiveness to social, linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe and local area, increased motivation and creativity in daily work.
