Adult educators digital skills

Exchange experience on how to enhance digital skills among adult educators (staff, trainers, teachers).
Starfsmennt, the Educational Training Centre for Public Employees, is participating in an Erasmusplus project TVET4.0 ( where we among other things discuss the digital and didactical skills teachers and trainers need for beeing able to prepare learners for the future challenges of the 4th industrial (r)evolution. Other partner countries are Finland, Germany and the Netherlands.
Starfsmennt has introduced the use of learning management system for delivering teaching and motivating learning among our target group. By using a system, we can reach out to public employees living and working in remote areas and also those doing shift work. Nevertheless, we experience some obstacles. The thing is, that almost all our teachers and trainers are specialists within other fields that teaching. They are doing this work as subcontractors and as such don‘t have much time to explore new ways of teaching. Starfsmennt does not lack the hardware or software, but we still have not figured out what exactly are the skills and competences we need to strengthen so the teachers will be better prepared to use this new kind of delivery and new approach of teaching and learning. Therefore, it would be really interesting to know others‘ experience, exchange best practices and figure out what skills need to be strengthened among adult teachers, trainers and educators.

This article published by IDAN Educational and Vocational Center in Iceland here on EPALE adresses the human factor of implementing digital tools in education. It's not enough to have all the right and most recent tools, it's the human factor that counts, like they say in the article: " It’s been a challenge for sure, and we have learned so many new things in such a short time. Still, the technical factor has proved to be quite solvable. Sometimes expensive, but always solvable.The human factor is of another kind.

Later today in this webinar you will be presented several usable and fun digital tools/apps that were explored within the Erasmusplusproject You Dig IT. In this project, the partnership tried out 28 apps for using in education for low skileld adults.

Paticipating in the TCA on Digital competencies for staff in adult education. Very interesting presentations and discussion on what is beeing trained, what are the issues and how to work on enhanced digital skills. It would be interesting to know others experience, do people put more emphasize on training technical skills of adult educators and other staff or have you developed a changed methodology of teaching (new didaktiks)?
