Among its various fields of action in adult education (preventing early-school leaving, social and professional migrants’ inclusion, promotion of social entrepreneurship, senior volunteering, etc.), Pistes-Solidaires is working since almost 10 years on the topic of urban gardens. The growing development of the urban gardens gave birth to a professional figure, the garden-organiser, described in our previous projects as the ”Gardeniser”. This figure, that needs a specific set of skills (design and development of a garden, management of volunteers, and financial management/evaluation of the gardens) is getting more and more important because of its social role and impact. This figure is at the centre of two projects in which we were (are) respectively coordinators and partners: Gardeniser (2014-2016) and Gardeniser Pro (2017-2020). We want now to extend the promising results and impacts to new countries and new organizations in a further phase of exchange of good practices.
This project aims to develop exchanges of good practices at European level, using the experience and learning of the previous projects in a 18 months project that would be implemented in four phases.
This 18 months project start from October 2020:
1) During the first phase for the project, Pistes-Solidaires and the Conservatory oh Heritage Vegetables of Béarn (CLAB, in Assat, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France) will host the kick-off meeting. This will be the opportunity to present to the partners the stakes of the project, to remind or present them in details the content of the training, and to agree on the schedule and protocol of selection of the trainees that will attend the training course and the learning mobilities across Europe. We will agree on the mobility schedule.
2) In the fourth month, a blended mobility will gather all the urban gardens organizers selected for the mobilities by each partner (5 people: 4 gardenisers + 1 mentor that will host the other European trainees) during one week. This training will be in a place/country to be defined. This will create a European dynamic between all the participants from the beginning of the project. The TC will be filmed and documented by an external audiovisual expert.
3) During a period of nine to twelve months, all the partners will send their participants in other partners’ country, for internships of one week. To be able to send two people by partner in the same country, the partners will be divided in two groups, based on geographical diversity. These internships will allow the Gardenisers to discover the reality of other European countries in a logic of exchanges of good practices and peer-education. After this period, the learners will need to organize at least one workshop in their country, not only to present the results, but also to extend and multiply the effects of the project. A page would be created in an online social network such as Instagram to present, through videos and photos, the different activities all along the project.
4) During the last phase, the partners will establish national and transnational reports of the internships and use the online media to disseminate the results. Each partner will organize one final event. The last management meeting will be organized at the same time to amplify its effects.
PROFILE OF THE PARTNERS RESEARCHED
We are looking for 3 urban gardens or organizations managing or in contact with urban gardens (association, federation, municipality, etc.), with the experience and ability to manage a 18 months project with a regular staff. The organizations would be based in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands or Eastern Europe in general. Each country needs to be able to send 5 persons in total in the first blending mobility (4 gardenisers + 1 mentor). One of the persons sent will be a trainer of the organization, while the others will be the 4 participants selected to go abroad for the learning mobilities that will be set in the following ten months.
