At the ninth STAR Awards ceremony, seven outstanding adult learning projects received an award in recognition of their work. The winning projects dealt with a range of issues such as homelessness, drug use, disability, unemployment, upskilling and the isolation of older people. Dr. Tom Collins presented the winners with their awards at the ceremony in the Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin. Over 300 people representing 38 adult education groups were in attendance. Winners of the Leinster small and medium organisations award was Boxing Clever.

Boxing Clever is a 20-week progressive rehabilitation programme with an emphasis on adult education, sports education, and addiction awareness designed to offer a marginalised and socially excluded group, stable and drug free service users, the opportunity to re-integrate back into mainstream society through the medium of a psych-educational framework underpinned by the philosophy of peer mentoring. So far, the programme has been offered 4 times involving 80 learners. Theoretical study for FETAC certificates in Health-Related Fitness and Community Addiction Studies is coupled with physical training including boxing skills and DCC gym training.  Here one of the course participants Denise shares her experience and Billy, a participant turned peer mentor talks about what the course has done for him.
