Honored to represent the Netherlands as one of the EPALE Heroes (Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe) at the Community Conference 2024: "Forward - Upskilling and Reskilling for the Digital Transition in Bologna.
At this inspiring event, I had the privilege of engaging with keynote speaker Jillian C. York on a critical issue: freedom of expression in the digital age. Together, we examined the increasingly blurred boundaries of digital responsibility, particularly as harmful or misleading content spreads rapidly. We posed the questions: How should individuals, tech companies, and governments be held accountable for the impact of online expression? And where do we draw the line between protecting free speech and safeguarding against real-world harm?
With EPALE’s recent milestone of reaching 150,000 users, it’s clearer than ever that supporting adult learners during the digital transformation is essential.However, education alone is not enough. Practical experience and hands-on work are crucial to applying theory in real-world contexts and demonstrating what’s possible.Staying curious and committed to learning beyond formal education is essential. Lifelong learning keeps us relevant, especially in fast-evolving fields like technology and business. While education provides a strong foundation, it's how you apply it—through the decisions you make, the changes you embrace, and the experiences you pursue—that ultimately shapes your impact
