Link & Learn is a series of one hour, bite-sized, topical learning sessions for employees, delivered in the workplace by experts in areas of particular interest to staff.

Since the programme began in 2014 it has been delivered to over 40 member businesses of Business in the Community from organisations ranging from Proparamedics to Northern Ireland Solicitors Association.  During that time sessions have been delivered by organisations from the local Northern Ireland community covering topics including:

  • First aid
  • Cancer awareness
  • Making wills
  • Alcohol
  • Social media

Typically lasting around an hour, the sessions offer a window in which to give employees an introduction in to the subject matter in question and provide an informal learning experience on topics which can affect their personal, work and family life.  It equips participants with the knowledge to make informed decisions but also act as a springboard from which they can develop their knowledge further.

Link & Learn offers participants the flexibility of being able to access the sessions at a time and place which suits them as well as the business needs of employers.  The work/family life balance can be difficult to achieve and these sessions provide a learning development opportunity on topics which can have an effect on various areas of their life.  There is, of course, also an appeal to employers in that initiatives such as Link & Learn help to develop healthy, connected workplaces; not only do they provide important information on key issues to staff – and in doing so help to improve wellbeing – but also give staff the opportunity to come together in an informal environment.

Link & Learn is part of Business in the Community’s ‘Workplace 20:20’ programme; a wider initiative to help employers create healthy, inclusive workplaces that enhance employee engagement and wellbeing.  Workplace 20:20 is an avenue for employers, with the support of Business in the Community, to make a difference to key societal issues effecting people in Northern Ireland by using the workplace as a setting.
