The Vocational Training Institute of Glyfada is housed in a modern building, built in 2000 and its purpose is to provide Initial Vocational Training for cutting-egde professions. The specialties it hosts are among others: • Informatics : Information Technology, Networks and Telecommunications • Administration and Economy: Maritime Sector, Tourism Sector, International Trade, Sport and Health Sector • Agriculture: Landscape and environmental projects • Applied Arts: Painting Art, Sketch Art - Illustration - Graphics, Graphic Designing and Electronic Media, Applied Dance Arts • Hotel and hospitality Sector : Bakery & Pastry chefs • Health and Welfare: Assistant Physiotherapist, Pharmacy Assistant, Nurse, Assistant Nursing • Beauty: Beauty and Makeup artist, Nail Care, Hairdressing • Technology: Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Specialist, Automotive-Vehicle Technicians • Sports: Sports Coaching Since its first day in 1992, the Institute has trained more than 4200 trainees, while for the current academic year the number of the new entries only is around 350. Trainees are young persons, usually aged 18-35 years old. Older people who re-determine their professional career, tertiary education graduates or people who already work in a field and who wish to certify their knowledge are also some of the Institute's trainees. The Institute hosts a great number of specialists, union representatives, representatives of companies and executives for each specialty and makes a considerable number of visits to professional venues and / or exhibitions related to the subjects to be trained. July 2013, The Institute participated in the world talent contest held in Leipzig, Germany, where two graphic design specialists received the first prize, one for the poster of the competition and the second candidate for the creation of an illustrated fairy tale based on the well-known fairy tale of the Red Robin hood 2. In January 2014, The Institute participated in one of the last study visits, prior to their abolition, entitled "Vocational Training and Employability", attended by 14 training inspectors from various European countries 3. December 2015, The Institute was honored by Europass for its participation in integrated mobility actions as one of the few institutions that issued the Euro Passport for all its projects 4. 2016, October, EPAR Academic Training Director Mr. JOFFREY ANTONIO JUSTINO visited the Institute in order to study and exchange views on how vocational education and training are run in Greece and in Portugal and decided the creation of a joint project in Information Technology. A request from the Academy for co-operation under KA2 5. 2016, November and December, participation of the administration, trainees and participants of the Erasmus+ projects in the technical interviews and workshops of the relevant workshop of the Ministry of Education with the participation of the Finnish company OMNIA, which has undertaken the editing of the study guides for the apprenticeship of the IVT trainees (facebook: vettrainersmentors) 6. 2017, September, The Institute was selected by the Ministry of Education for the preparation of a pilot apprenticeship program in Greece or abroad 7. 2017, May, 3 teachers from Portugal visited the Institute for job shadowing 8. 2017, May, visit of 4 teachers from Portugal on "STEM technologies as a lever for the training of European citizens in the 21st century"2017 Judging by the figures, the strategy of strengthening the profile of the Institute at local and national level has been considerably successful since the number of the students has increased by 89%, 40% and 19% in the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively, in a way that the Institute is now operating to the maximum of its capacity. At international level, the internationalization of the Institute - the only one with so many international actions - is confirmed by the actions we have listed, which amount to more than 20 in about 3 years. Besides, since 1998, the Institute has implemented many European programs - more than 50 Leonardo da Vinci and Erasmus+, of which more than 1000 trainees have benefited. Also, in cooperation with other organizations - youth organizations from Greece and other countries, it has implemented and participated in more than 30 Youth programs, through which students benefit and train on topics of general interest that add positive elements to the character formation but also have given an important European dimension to the Institute.
