The Further Education and Training Research Centre (FETRC) was formally launched this week in its current home of the School of Education Studies on the Dublin City University (DCU) campus. The aim of the centre according to Dr. Justin Rami, the coordinator of FETRC, is to engage with research at all levels to help influence the overall strategic direction of the further education and training (FET) sector in Ireland.

In an evermore complex world, statistics have become the key to understand the dynamics taking place around us, and the basis for decision making. In view of this, the National Statistics Office (NSO) remains committed to produce a whole range of reliable indicators about all aspects of life, while recognising the need to assist our users in the interpretation of statistics. To this end, the Office is organising a seminar, primarily intended for journalists and users engaged in PR, to help them familiarise with the statistical output of the NSO.

This training is commonly job-related, and participation is far higher among employed than non-employed, as the employer often is the training provider. V roku 2012 sa v Európskej únii nachádzalo okolo 643 000 väzňov a odvtedy sa počet osôb vo výkone trestu odňatia slobody mierne zvyšoval. Väčšina týchto osôb nemá ukončené vyššie alebo odborné vzdelanie, alebo neabsolvovala ďalšie vzdelávanie a nemá dostatočne osvojené základné zručnosti. Vzdelávanie v ústavoch na výkon trestu odňatia slobody zohráva zásadnú úlohu pri znovuzačlenení sa do spoločnosti a v prevencii ďalšieho páchania trestnej činnosti väzňov.
