Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania agreed on automatic recognition of academic qualifications concerning higher education

Ministers of Education and Research of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania signed the agreement today that enables automatic recognition of academic qualifications concerning higher education in all three countries.

„The agreement we signed today makes it easier for Estonian students to start studies in other Baltic countries and vice versa, for Latvian and Lithuanian students to start studying in Estonia, too. It increases academic mobility, makes our higher education system more open and international and also supports labor mobility, “explained the Estonia’s Minister of Education and Research Mailis Reps.

Easier recognition of academic degrees, professional higher education diplomas and upper secondary education diplomas is stated in the agreement. Higher education institutions and employers do not have to ask their local ENIC-NARIC Center (European Network of Information Centers in the European Region and National Academic Recognition Information Centers in the European Union) when students from other Baltic countries want to enter their institution or when they want to hire a person from another Baltic country. In the future the centers’ websites will provide information regarding qualifications, recognized higher education institutions and their curriculums eligible for automatic recognition.

The agreement is a joint effort of the Baltic Countries for creating the European Higher Education Area. Similar agreements are in place in Benelux countries. In the end of May, the European education ministers agreed on finishing the Bologna process by signing the Paris Communiqué. By 2020, the European countries aim to reach pan-European implementation of automatic recognition of qualifications.

The automatic recognition becomes effective on those qualifications awarded after the implementation of the agreement.

Diskussjoni ta’ EPALE: Il-forniment ta’ tagħlim ta’ ħiliet bażiċi

Il-ħiliet bażiċi huma trasversali. Dawn mhumiex rilevanti biss għall-politika edukattiva, iżda huma rilevanti wkoll għall-politiki tal-impjiegi, tas-saħħa, soċjali u ambjentali. Il-bini ta’ miżuri ta’ politika koeżivi li jappoġġjaw lill-persuni bi ħtiġijiet bażiċi ta’ ħiliet huwa meħtieġ mhux biss biex il-Perkorsi ta’ Titjib tal-Ħiliet ikunu suċċess, iżda wkoll biex jgħinu fil-bini ta’ soċjetajiet aktar reżiljenti u inklużivi. Id-diskussjoni online se ssir f’din il-paġna fis-16/17 ta’ Settembru bejn l-10:00 u s-16:00 CET u se tkun immoderata mill-Koordinaturi Tematiċi ta’ EPALE tal-EBSN
