EPALE focus: Active citizenship

EPALE’s thematic focus for May is active citizenship and the importance of citizenship education.
Here at EPALE we believe citizenship education is an important step towards healthy societies. It helps people learn about citizenship and human rights through an understanding of the principles and institutions in their country. Citizenship education can make learners become active citizens. It helps them to exercise their judgement and critical thinking, develop a sense of individual and community responsibilities, and get involved in their local communities and democracy at all levels.
