ÖJAB (Austrian Young Workers Movement) is a generation-connecting youth organisation, independent of any political party or religious obligation.
As a non-profit organisation, it offers more than 4,700 places to stay for students, pupils, apprentices, young workers, senior citizens and refugees in a total of 30 ÖJAB-houses nationwide, thus making it one the largest residency organisations in Austria. At present around 4,200 young people, 470 senior citizens and 58 refugees are staying in 24 student hostels and youth residences, in 3 senior citizens' residences and nursing homes, in 2 intergenerational residency and in 1 intercultural hostel.
Over 500 employees help to achieve this goal on a daily basis, with many more offering their highly treasured services on a voluntary basis.
In addition to the work carried out in the residences and hostels, ÖJAB is widely engaged in a variety of education and labour market integration projects. Therefore, already 40 years, the BPI of ÖJAB (institute for professional training and development of ÖJAB) successfully carries out various qualification measures and courses in order to foster and train socially and economically disadvantaged young and adults, migrants, refugees as well as people with special needs. ÖJAB currently carries out various projects, qualification measures and competence check fostering labor market integration of refugees. Additionally, ÖJAB offers accommodation and support for asylum seekers and supports unaccompanied minor refugees.
We are working to support young target groups to give them new opportunities for their individual education pathways through mobility experiences, to improve occupability empowering them for their professional development.
