The New Start teacher’s handbook: Selected teaching materials for direct using - and for supporting a smooth integration of migrants and refugees
The New Start Handbook offers trainers working with migrants and refugees a clear structured and direct usable collection of different teaching modules to relevant issues for a smooth integration of migrants and refugees.
For a successful integration, especially at the European labour market, knowledge and competencies of European culture, of rights and duties, of fundamental values as freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination are essential. The Erasmus+ project "New Start: European culture and values training for a smooth integration of migrants and refugees" aims to support the integration by developing training and learning materials for migrants and refugees. For this, the project partner from Spain, UK, Italy and Germany have bundled their competences, brought together their experiences and collected best practice examples. The teacher’s handbook is the first result of the project, a welcome guidebook for migrants and refugees will follow.
The teacher’s handbook covers in five moduls objectives such as
- European rights and duties
- Integration: the European dream vs. the European relality
- European culture
- Gender issues
- Labour guidance
Every edited lessons contains a prepared unit plan with explained methods, scheduling and usable learning material. There is for example a case study which goes through some units and occurs in different units. Furthermore methods are be deployed such as role plays, group dynamics and games to loosen up the lessons and to appeal the participants in different ways. The modules and units build on each other but they also fit in existing courses with migrants and refugees - the trainers are free to use this offer as a whole or in adapted parts.
The handbook is available in English, Italian, Spanish, Catalan and German and ready for download here.
