Skills Development Fund: Supporting individuals and communities

The City and Guilds Group has announced grants to two charities as part of the Skills Development Fund, a £5m investment to help support individuals and communities through developing skills.

The fund, which was launched in September 2015, helps people get into employment, or progress within employment. For the first year, the Fund is investing in projects around three key themes:

  1. Supporting women and girls to develop their skills
  2. Preventing offending and re-offending
  3. Promoting positive skills labour mobility

Global Generation will receive £160,059 over three years which will help support people in developing hands-on skills such as gardening and carpentry. The funding will support the Living Culture programme, an initiative targeted at NEETs in London’s Kings Cross to support their personal and vocational skills development.

The Change Foundation will also receive a grant of £147,329 over three years  to support Generation Storm, a mentoring, fitness and wellbeing programme aimed at empowering young female care leavers to make positive transitions into education, work or training.

The fund supports projects which have a strong connection the City and Guilds Group purpose – of enabling people and organisations to develop their skills for personal and economic growth.
