EPALE focus: Digital adult learning

Throughout January and February, EPALE’s main thematic focus will be on the role of digital in adult learning.
Digital learning is any type of learning that involves the use technology (such as digital devices, online tools, apps, etc.) and multimedia content. Digital learning can give learning providers flexibility and more efficient ways of evaluating and monitoring their learners. It can also give learners an easier, faster, and more affordable access to information, and an opportunity to personalise their learning experience.
Here at EPALE we appreciate the important role of digital tools in transforming the way we teach and learn and in providing a more efficient and inclusive learning experience. Check out EPALE’s thematic page E-learning, where the community and the national teams have gathered interesting articles, useful resources and case studies on the topic (content varies based on your language preference). Visit EPALE regularly for new content in January and February!

Pēc manām domām, šīs zināšanas dod zināmu priekšrocību. Jaunas zināšanas ir nepieciešams smelties jebkurā vecumā, it īpaši mūsu mainīgā laikā, kad viss tik strauji iet uz priekšu un jaunās tehnoloģijas pārņem mūsu ikdienu. Pieaugušajiem ir nepieciešamas digitālās prasmes, lai spētu būt konkurētspējīgi mūsdienu darba tirgū.

Among the various avenues of innovation supported, in part, by the use of digital technology, we can mention the one concerning the diversification of learning activities offered to adults in their accompanied training path. Thanks to digital tools and resources, several modalities can be complemented to allow learners to get involved, learn, produce and value themselves ; individually or collectively, at a distance or not, online or not, tutored or not, etc... Kā jebkurai parādībai, arī digitālai izglītībai piemit gan pozitīvās, gan arī negatīvās īpašības. Dota komentāra autors nav retrogrāds, un viņš pilnīgi atzīst faktu, kā digitālai izglītībai ir daudz priekšrocību.
Tomēr pilnīgā atteikšanās no tradicionālām apmācības metodēm, to pilnīgā aizvietošana ar digitālām, manuprāt ir aplāma pieeja. Līdzīgi kā mācību grāmatas, arī digitālie līdzekļi ir tikai palīglīdzekļi. Iespējams, ka tehnoloģijam attīstoties, tālā nākotnē tiks izstrādāti tādi digitālie līdzekļi (no vienas puses) un izglītojamie kļūs tik apzinīgi (no otras puses), ka pasniedzējs mācību procesā vispār nebūs vajadzīgs.
Bet mūsdienās pasniedzējs paliek par galveno figūru mācību procesā: 1) uzdod izglītojama domāšanas virzienu; 2) lekciju stundās izdalā un izklāstā pašu galveno (pašam izglītojamam, t. i. cilvēkam, kas nezina priekšmetu, nepieciešams daudz laika lai pārstrādātu ārkārtīgi lielo informācijas apjomu un izdalītu no ta pašu to galveno; pieaugušam izglītojamam tik daudz laika parasti nav, jo lielāku daļu no sava laika viņš tērē apmaksātā darbā); 3) veido atgrizenisko saiti ar izglītojamiem, vērtē to zināšanas, palīdz veidot mācību vielas izpratni, atbildot uz katra izglītojama individuāliem jautājumiem.
Izskatās, ka pasniedzējs, kurš pārmērīgi aizraujas ar digitāliem mācību līdzēkļiem, izvairās no savu tiešo pienākumu pildīšanas, tādējādi atvieglojot sev dzīvi uz izglītojamo personīga laika rēķina.

I would like to introduce you a new solution supporting mobile learning in the adults' education:
"MójTrener.edu" is a free mobile app that helps you organize your trainings participants' knowledge in one easily accessible place. Through the online panel synchronized with the users' app accounts, you are able to:
- send materials directly to your trainings' participants,
- set goals for your groups,
- share a list of books that will broaden the participants' knowledge,
- inspire with the quotes and the golden thoughts related to the topic of your training.
"MójTrener.edu" is a virtual bridge of knowledge between the trainers and the participants of your trainings.

Meaningful and successful personal and professional life of today and the future requires the person’s ability to adjust to the constantly changing environment, the ability and inclination to constructively react to changes, act in accordance with constantly renewing and increasing information. The ICT are very useful here, but we need to able to learn, more exactly to manade our learning; therefore, the idea of lifelong learning is raised as one of the most important educational aims and one of the essential expected outcomes. Learning to learn is understood as the person’s wish and readiness to take up new tasks, the ability to control cognitive and emotional processes while learning and apply acquired abilities in various contexts. for this purpose we also could use ICT.

One of the most demanding subjects in this reflection on Digital Learning in Adult Education has to do with learning spaces and enabling contexts. The FabLabs that are based on a logic of production and collaboration have a high potential to be privileged spaces in supporting the development of new skills.
In Government Portal there's an interesting presentation about a national project connected with this key idea of Promoting digital learning through Fablabs.
"Fablabs are experimental workshops that offer a set of digital machines and tools that allow anyone to produce a variety of custom products on a small scale.
These are spaces that can play a fundamental role in the valorisation and diffusion of knowledge, in particular the new digital technologies of production, as well as in the consolidation of collaborative practices, which contribute to respond to social challenges in the territorial contexts in which they are inserted.
Technological and digital transformation
The approach of knowledge to society and to companies, in a scenario of increasing technological and digital transformation, has carried new responsibilities, new challenges and multiple opportunities in the frontiers of scientific knowledge and its application, in the field of training and qualification of the people and in the expansion of inclusive and collaborative learning contexts.
The bet on Knowledge should happen as far back as possible. Hence the Government's commitment to its promotion and promotion in various fields, including economic, social, environmental and cultural, and at various stages of creation, sharing and implementation.
In this context, a set of measures has been adopted to stimulate the knowledge and innovation agenda, stimulating the adoption of technology by companies and society in general, reinforcing the promotion of scientific and technological culture, increasing scientific employment and ensuring new training contexts.
Industry 4.0
Also within the 4.0 (i4.0) industry, the Government promotes and supports the creation of Learning Factories, physical infrastructures with technological equipment that simulate i4.0 enterprise environments dedicated to experimentation, prototyping and training, allowing the sharing knowledge of i4.0 and its practical application.
ÉvoraTech, managed by the Regional Development Agency of Alentejo, is part of the National Network of Incubators and offers a set of services to welcome and promote ideas, projects and startups, especially innovative, technologically based and with a high potential for growth.
Fablab ÉvoraTech helps to develop innovative projects using means of rapid prototyping, electronics, internet of things and robotics, thus assuming itself as a center of knowledge transfer and product prototyping, being available to the academic and scientific community, businesses and the local community.
Presently, there are 16 Fablabs in activity and 3 in installation, having an association of Fablabs of Portugal that groups the Fablabs of public and private institutions ".

A lot of public services and other organizations require digital skills (registration, uplaoding) and many people need education and support to acquire these skills.
On the other hand the services and organizations could make an effort to make their sites more accessible and simplify the language they use. It is often unnecessarily complicated.
