Innovative technologies for adult learning at work

In order for adult education to be effective, it is necessary to be able to produce knowledge, to benefit from new scientific discoveries and innovations resulting from them, and therefore to remain contemporary. The education given to adults should have a positive effect on the individual's life, encourage the application and respond to the reasons and why in their minds. Adults have more expectations for more realistic, concrete solutions than children and young people. The training given to them should be appropriate to their needs. One of the alternative ways to meet this training need is the use of technology in education.

Today, adults need formal and informal education to meet their needs such as business life, professional satisfaction and personal development, but they find it difficult to find materials that meet their required time and expectations. All these trainings have an important place in the Lifelong Learning (LLL) movement which has become widespread in recent years. The informal structure of the training, which is realized through various certificate programs and in-house trainings, is in increasing demand especially by companies in the service sector. This raises various requirements such as the availability of scarce resources such as educators, places and time for individuals. In recent years, rapidly developing distance education and E-Learning are a rapidly developing contemporary education models used to solve all these problems. In the age of information and technology, individuals have a wide range of options in accessing information. Individuals have access to resources in formal, informal, non-formal and natural learning environments. With the advent of Web 2.0 technologies, individuals have become more active in online environments, not only providing access to information, but also creating and sharing content. Thus, individuals with new learning profiles are formed with digital technologies. Users not only search on Web 2.0, but are also active in matters involving online communication, covering published resources, tagging bookmarks, and sharing pictures and videos. Many educational institutions, which have the opportunity to spread Web 2.0 technology, started to share their lessons on platforms such as youtube.

In addition to Web 2.0 technologies, mobile learning, which has emerged as a result of widespread use of mobile devices, is also facilitating the learning of adults at work today. Learning with mobile learning takes place through mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, portable media playback devices; content can be accessed from anywhere, at any time via internet. Mobile learning is a powerful alternative for learning environments with many advantages such as being portable, interacting, ease of use, supporting individual learning, being independent of time and space, enabling continuous learning, recognizing equal opportunities in education and increasing motivation.

    Dear Esra, thank you for your blogpost, but I like to share two additional thoughts (or three?) with you:
    1. Adult learning has first and formost the task to help people learn how to learn. In our fast-changing world the transmission of new knowledge is futile since it will be outdated soon. But it is still done and it seems to me a big problem. But most educators do not understand or do not acknowledge the fact that this changes their role.
    2. Children like to learn with a mind towards Usability and applicability of the learning Content, too. But unfortunately Schools and politicians still think it is more appropriate for them to "store" Knowledge somewhere in your brain until you can apply it. What do you remember from the learning content in sixth grade? I personally can say: fractions, but that is just that.
    I think that you are right in assuming that the access to new learning tools will form a new profile of learners, and I hope (this is No. 3!) that it will also lead to more collaboration in the learning process.
