10 Prisons Project – Family engagement programme resources

Lingua: EN

Inviato da NSS UK

The 10 Prisons Project launched in 2018 and aims to reduce violence and substance misuse as part of a wider strategy to provide stable prison estates. It is a 12-month programme that aims to support prisoners by ensuring that families and other important figures in a prisoner’s life are considered in decision-making processes and developments. Providing safer custody, visit provision and the roll out of the Offender Management in Custody key worker model were all given special focus.

Following the project’s findings, four Think Family briefings have been published, providing guidance on how to develop a Think Family approach and insight into current family practice in prisons. A series of resources accompany the briefings, including a checklist, a family induction booklet, a toolkit and an impact assessment tool, plus others. The briefings and resources can be downloaded for free from the Clinks website.

The 10 Prisons Project recognises the vital role that families and important people play in helping prisoners to be released with less likelihood of reoffending. As a result, there has been a lot of focus on developing family learning within prisons and ensuring that prisoners have access to their families while they are in custody.

The briefings and resources will be of use to anyone working with prisoners and their families. Training is also provided within the resource bank and is targeted specifically at those working with male prisoners.
