Sustainability in adult education
Dear Conference speakers! How do you see the future of sustainable education as well as sustainability teaching in adult education? GreenComp framework is a great structure but how to integrate this into practice? Kind regards, Iveta Cirule, EPALE Latvia regional coordinator
EPALE Community Conference 2025
We are also eagerly awaiting the second day of the EPALE Community Conference 2025!
And we are actively following the side events of the EPALE Community Conference throughout Europe!
May these two days be inspiring for everyone!
Radical collaborations through learning ecosystems
Do you see learning cities as models for radical cooperation amongst stakeholders for skills developent and creative communites to respond to both eoconimc and social/environmental challlenges?
Our community's strengths
The focus on connecting past experiences with future challenges reflects exactly what makes our community so valuable - collective reflection and shared vision.
The impact EPALE in bridging member countries' ALE practices
I think national EPALE activities have implied necessary collaborations with neighbouring countries' practices in ALE to learn and exchange. Such partnerships have helped to turn users understand relities with apparent choices and limitations in ALE .
The power of EPALE in turninf attention to vulnerable learners
I am strongly concerned that EPALE has turned attention to vulnerable groups of adult learners, like prisoners who may meet some progressive practices of ALE to support reintegration/vocational skills development and beyond. Examples under the label of prison learning has helped, for example, young students in MA programmes in Adulr Education universities across Europe to collect and analyse good practices of ALE in prisons. Italian EPALE has collected a number of publications on the topic to promote attention and understanding adult and lifelong learning with roles to enhance resilience in society, community.
Value of EPALE in connecting people with creative potentials
EPALE has inspired ALE practitioners and professionals to connect and exchange through collaborative actions/projects/ based on partical meetings in-person and digital formats to help citizens of Europe learn for active citizenship, sustainable futures and better working environments. This aspect can be considered as a good frame with intergenerational and intercultural concerns to demonstrate that Noone is left behind!
The benefits of EPALE
EPALE has helped us to demonstrate that learning in adulthood is for life and not just for jobs. It is good to demonstrate this with inspiring examples of learning communities, learning cities and connect peoples representing good practices in that dimension. This is what I myself try to do and represent as Ambassador for Hungarian EPALE.

Who is ready to correct mistakes?
EPALE has a dual mission - to teach adults new skills and at the same time correct the mistakes made while learning in childhood, because the basics is very important.
Use of EPALE
I try to connect adult learning practitioners be aware of international trends and how to relate national/regional/local concers to global trends so as to understand reasons for similarities and differences, but also to address quality-focused matters referring to what they can do to improve participation and/performance in adult learning.

EPALE in national languages
EPALE is great network and platform also for non-English speaking participants. This is the unique added value of EPALE - publish and read information in national language.
From AI to Human Intelligence and backwards
EPALE has suported researchers and practitioners to recognise the importance of developing human intelligence be promoted through effective forms of knowledge transfer, skills development and community-based learning platforms to demostrate changing forms of learning from local to global.
EPALE to transform AE to ALE
EPALE has helped a lot to form transformation of AE into ALE by turning attention to adult learners and adult learning through varions actions. Beyond, EPALE has helped adult learinng professionals to recognise the importance of quality tools in having to develop Adult Learning to become a transformative tool. Those EU-wide potential in collecting sharing practicea and reflections are very much valuable.
EPALE 10-years-anniversary
EPALE means bridging collection and sharing of knowledge in ALE! Also, EPALE brings about a humanistically driven understanding of skills from basic to transversal skills combined with vocational orientations, community and sustainability
Participation in lifelong learning
There have been minor changes in adult lifelong learning over the past decade. According to Eurostat data, in 2015, 10.1% of adults aged 25-64 participated in adult learning in the last 4 weeks, and in 2024, 13.5%, which cannot be assessed as great progress despite the huge investments and efforts. Why is that?
Saying thank you
Let me thank all those colleagues in ALE, like Simon Broek, and others who initiated the formation of EPALE right after 2010 and made it real to have this community of adult learning practitioners across Europe!

EPALE Community Conference 2025
Thank you to the conference organizers and participants. This was an inspiring experience and opened up more open perspectives on adult education, the problems of its accessibility for different users, and new opportunities that could alleviate these problems.
