A lot of items we discard can easily be fixed with a little bit of care and help from people who are knowledgeable in repairs. Friends of the Earth Malta will be hosting a Repair Cafe in collaboration with the Directorate for Research, Lifelong Learning and Employability within the Ministry for Education and Employment in Malta.
We are happy to announce that we have exciting stations to our usual repair cafe. Check out the agenda and the stations we will have on the day:
16:45 - 18:00 - Sustainability Workshop
Join us to learn more about sustainability, the current context in Malta and how you can shift towards better practices for the environment. This workshop and quiz is on a first come first served basis so make sure you book through https://lifelonglearning.gov.mt/public/frmCourse.aspx?id=4181 or get in touch via email on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Doors open for registration at 16:45 and the workshop starts at 17:00 sharp!
17:00 - 20:00 Repair Cafe
For our repair cafe you can either get an object that you have that is broken that you want help with fixing, or else just come and join in and learn. This will be a way of sharing our knowledge, helping each other out, and learning of how to easily fix things.
Repair Stations on the Day
Joseph Caruana who is part of R2PI Project - The route to Circular Economy, will be hosting workshop on two or three techniques for pottery fixing: kintsugi, epoxy and a ‘drill and wire' technique. Get your broken pots, your beloved mugs, and any other pottery objects.
Thanks to the support of the amazing people at Fashion Revolution Malta we will be hosting the clothing repair stations.
Upcycling & Wood Repair
Marta Kurzyńska from STH from NTH will be working on wood repair and making cool upcycled creations, giving life back to material which is considered as waste.
Electronic Appliance Repair
Not all home appliances are easily repaired since companies are not putting products on the market with a product design which is made to be fixed. We are determined to have this changed, so get simple home appliances to repair!
Joseph Caruana will also be doubling up as a Fairphone repairer. We want to showcase Fairphone, a company that produced fair and modular phones that are made to be repaired. Thanks to their contribution, we will have samples at the repair cafe for demonstration purposes.
Get your old laptops that are too slow to use but are still sitting on your shelf at home. Michele will show you how to install open source software that would make your old laptop much faster. If you don’t need the laptop anymore you can also kindly donate it to the NGO and we will give it a new home.
Do you have bike and want to learn how to maintain it and fix it? Join this repair station!
