Para Floriany "migrare" la crisis supuso un tremendo impulso innovador, ya que tuvieron que enfrentarse a cuestiones para las que simplemente no había suficiente tiempo durante las operaciones comerciales normales. Hasta ese momento, nunca habían considerado usar herramientas digitales para nuestros cursos. Ahora con la "nueva realidad" con el Coronavirus, se vieron obligados a lidiar con estas cuestiones por primera vez. Esto les permitió alcanzar un nuevo nivel de calidad para sus servicios.

For Florian and "migrare" the crisis resulted in a tremendous innovative push, as they had to deal with issues for which there simply wasn’t enough time during normal business operations. They had never considered using digital tools for our course offerings up until that point. Now with the “new reality” with Coronavirus, they were forced to deal with these questions for the first time. This allowed them to achieve a new level of quality for their services.

Die Ausgangsbedingungen von Migrant*innen, Geflüchteten oder Asylsuchenden sind oft ziemlich heterogen. Im Rahmen des Projekts CORES wird eine Charta gemeinsamer Strategien für Geflüchtete auf europäischer Ebene erarbeitet, die auf einer umfassenden Analyse der länderspezifischen Situation und Bedürfnisse sowie Fokusgruppen mit Geflüchteten, Asylsuchenden und Sozialarbeiter*innen, die den jeweiligen Integrationsprozess unterstützen, basiert.

As a result of learning theories and developing technologies, the change of learning and teaching approach showed us that as learning is individualized, it may be performed not only in class but in anywhere and everywhere. These kind of e-learning environments became more common. However, e-learning applications have disadvantages, and these disadvantages need to be covered with face-to-face education environments, thus, blended learning approach emerges as a requirement at this point. Developed literacy, numeracy and digital skills are closely related to active engagement in democratic life, to citizenship and the ability to exercise judgment critically & independently. A low level of such competences can leave a person at a disadvantage not only in the labour market (around 90% of jobs are estimated to need at least some level of digital skills in the EU) but also in society.

Chiara Borsini è project manager e formatrice specializzata in giornalismo digitale e nuovi media, digital storytelling e comunicazione interculturale. La situazione di partenza di migranti, rifugiati o richiedenti asilo è spesso piuttosto eterogenea. Nell'ambito del progetto CORES sarà prodotta una Carta di strategie comuni per i rifugiati a livello dell'Unione europea, basata su una approfondita analisi della specifica situazione per paese e sulla rilevazione dei bisogni, nonché su una serie di focus group che coinvolgono rifugiati, richiedenti asilo e sociali lavoratori che li supportano nel loro processo di integrazione.

Integrating minority, migrant & refugee children at European schools & society

According to the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR), over 1 million asylum-seekers and migrants reached the European Union via the Mediterranean in 2015 alone; that is, nearly five times as many as in 2014. The UN’s refugee agency estimates that 84 percent are from countries that, because of war or other circumstances, qualify them as refugees. This overwhelming refugee crisis poses many immediate challenges that should be addressed at different levels within the European Union.

The learning resources presented here have been developed through an ERASMUS+ project for adult education entitled “UGAIN: Urban gardens for social integration of migrants” (Project Nº:2017-1-DE02-KA204-004151) carried out between 2017 and 2020. The UGAIN project provides NGOs, local government and new or existing community garden managers with the training and support to transform a green space into a meeting point for local people and migrants, fostering social integration and cultural exchange.

Chiara Borsini is a project manager and trainer specialising in digital journalism and new media, digital storytelling and intercultural communication. The starting situation of migrants, refugees or asylum seekers is often quite heterogeneous. A Charter of Common Strategies for Refugees at European Union level will be produced within the CORES project, which is based on an in-depth country-specific situation and needs analysis as well as on a number of focus groups involving refugees, asylum seekers and social workers who support them in their integration process.
