Hamid Metadjer, certified in digital learning, is in charge of partnership relations at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris.

How did the idea of this MOOC on social networks come about?

The idea of this MOOC was a result of the lockdown imposed by the Government during the Coronavirus epidemic.

The concept was to re-script content created during and outside the European Erasmus+ NetMe-In project, with a MOOC version allowing simple, free and instant access at home.

The NetMe-In project, funded by the Erasmus + strategic partnership programme from 2015 to 2018, focused on the employment situation for certain young adults. The situation is particularly alarming throughout Europe, especially for “NEETs” (Not in Employment, Education or Training). The consortium was made up of training organisations, university training centres and professional integration companies: FREREF (coordinator) - Université Bretagne Sud (France) - Deutch Foundation of Innovation Welfare 2 Work-DFOIW2W (Netherlands) - FUEIB (Spain) - SOPHIA R&I (Italy) - CEIS Formazione (Italy) - Bogazici Universitesi LL Center-BULLC (Turkey) - Réseau Cité des Métiers (RCDM) - CISTOCA (Croatia) -TECHNICKA SKOLA KARLOVAC (Croatia).

3 objectives were set:

- Establish territorial support networks at a local level and federate them at the European level;

- Help young people who are in difficulty and young adults who are out of employment to understand the importance of developing and managing their Digital Professional Identity on all social networks;

- Create "Knowledge Capsules" on these issues, and make them freely available on the Web.


What was the added value of participating in the European project NetMe-In, whose results you are reusing?

NetMe-In was a collective international and inter-cultural experience. Its impacts are ongoing, as is its dissemination. This MOOC is a new example of dissemination of the NetMe-In project, that came to a close in October 2018. NetMe-In made it possible to anticipate the remote collaboration to which all citizens are now being subjected in this context of general lockdown. The NetMe-In experience was also an opportunity to test the different communication and remote working technologies in the contexts of different business cultures and with language barriers.


What are the expectations following the creation of this MOOC?

This MOOC is intended to simplify the approach towards social networks in order to demonstrate their social utility and how they can develop collective and collaborative actions. The MOOC is also intended to demonstrate the use of social networks in implementing a tailor-made personal or professional project.


How do you see the future, and the evolution of social networks?

Social networks represent an added value in making yourself known, building personal and professional links and actively participating in societal debates, acting and inventing your own life.

The evolution of social networks is more important from the point of view of citizens who increasingly adopt modes of communication, thinking, exchange and collaboration that are inspired by the workings of social networks. We are dealing here with epigenetics, a discipline of biology that studies the nature of the mechanisms that reversibly and adaptively modify the expression of our genes without changing our DNA. Epigenetics shows that human beings are constantly adapting to changing environments.


Will the use of social networks intensify, especially in fields that are currently not or little exploited?

It seems to me that social networks have a real role to play in exchanges and communication between scientists (researchers, doctors, industrialists) and the general public. Social networks must be the vehicles for peaceful and trusting communication between these two parties. I believe that citizens will have a major role to play via social networks, in decisions that concern society as a whole.
